1. Destroy papers you don't need: credit-card and ATM receipts, checks or deposit slips, health insurance
benefit statements, paycheck stubs, tax records and preapproved credit-card offers. Buy a shredder and
use it.
2. Do not carry your Social Security number with you, never give it out unless absolutely necessary and do
not have it printed on your checks.
3. Check your credit report each year. Investigate any accounts you did not apply for directly. To check your
credit, contact one of the three major agencies: TransUnion 800-888-4213 (www.tuc.com), Experian
888-EXPERIAN (www.experian.com), or Equifax 800-685-1111 (www.equifax.com). There is a fee for this

| - Ease of Use: Easy, with a column on the left with
basic links to help navigate; Middle column is a little cluttered and too
descriptive, needs to be more general. Has a "shopping
cart" icon to click when you want to buy. -Search: Excellent! Has a pull-down menu to help with the search process. Also, if typing a search function and have a typo, it notices the typo and corrects it for you. For example, I typed A Tree Gros in Brooklyn, and it asked me if I meant to type A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. -Design: Well designed; pretty to look at; colored red- possibly just for Valentine's Day but gives it a nice festive look; has columns and other info on the side in boxes with curved edges, rather than hard sharp corners. |
-Ease of Use: Easy; very simple and well formatted; Basic
headings such as: "Kids Books," "Books,"
"Movies." Each heading also shows one item which is
currently popular. Also has the "shopping cart"
icon.
-Search: Similar to Amazon: has a "quick search" with subtitles to narrow down searches, which is very helpful. But, I tried the same test with the typo error, but it did not notice the typo. Instead, books such as Anne of Green Gables came up. This is NOT a good search quality. -Design: Good design with separate columns of info, but not as eye-appealing. Almost boring. Dull colors and smaller boring font that doesn't stand out as much. |

10. Bigs and Littles- An outreach to children from poor, single-parent families in the South Philadelphia area to offer friendship and be role models. The children are matched to Villanova University students. The principle contact with the children is one-on-one weekly visits or calls to establish rapport. Then there are twice a month outings with the whole group. Fundraising events and meetings for the Bigs also help solidify community. http://www.campusministry.villanova.edu/volunteer_fair/index.html#bnl
11. a) We examine four areas of rapid technology development that exploit the capabilities of interactive e-channels: Web-based self-service, data mining, personalization and e-cash.
Personalization: Personalization in the form of customized portals (e.g., MyYahoo) and news notification against personal profiles are already mainstays of many Web offerings. However, most of today's personalization is human-driven, requiring users to explicitly state or select their preferences, or businesses to define rules to drive the customization. An emerging set of capabilities (based on machine learning and data mining) enables data-driven personalization, whereby the system learns the user's preferences automatically based on behavior such as click-through patterns or length of time spent in various areas of the site. In particular, real-time data mining enables a context-rich and immediate response and adjustment to customer behavior rather than relying solely on offline historical data. An early example of automated personalization is Amazon's use of collaborative filtering to provide its "users who bought this book also bought …" feature. http://www.gartner.villanova.edu/ras_frame.html

The two new portable MP3-CD players are the Philips Expanium and the Pine D'music SM-200C. The D'music has a fatal flaw -- it caused skips in my MP3-CDs and, in some cases, it played five or 10 seconds of static before starting a song. The Philips Expanium doesn't display any song information, making navigation hard. Its overall feel is flimsy and its controls were a little clumsy. And its antishock feature, which prevents skips when the unit is moved, is less than perfect. It also lacks a versatile set of equalizer settings to change the tone of the music. http://nrstg2p.djnr.com/cgi-bin/DJInteractive?cgi=WEB_FLAT_PAGE&page=wrapper/index&NRAUTOLOG=01UqTHtTmrm87MNx3A7R4JDz6iqKRf&user_bounced=1&entry_point=1
